David Tierney
David Tierney currently lives in California’s Napa Valley with his wife and newborn son. He was born in McLean, Virginia. He received his B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Virgina in 1989.
David started learning about interactive multimedia in 1992 with his work for the Interactive Multimedia Association, and an industry publication titled, “The Multimeida and Videodisc Monitor”, back when the internet was barely known, and multimedia often meant hooking up a content rich videodisc player to the interactive interface of the computer.
He began his work with interactive multimedia design that same year with a full-time job working for a small creative division of Philips Electronics called Philips Studio Interactive, (PSI). There he was involved in the creation of a dozen plus consumer and corporate titles, some winning design awards.
David temporarily left his full-time interactive design work in 1996 as then Assistant Producer and Production Coordinator for PSI to explore his own personal growth and healing. He completed several graduate degree programs in integrative medicine, including a Doctorate in Physiatric ('natural') Medicine, a Masters in Acupuncture, and being awarded board certification in Naturopathic Medicine. During this time, he provided health care to over a hundred clients, strengthening his interpersonal client-care skills, and his intuitive senses in helping clients not only improve their physical health, but also find greater fulfillment in all aspects of their lives.
As a natural extension of his pursuit for understanding and achieving greater fulfillment and peace through healing, David undertook a three-year spiritual growth and development program based in Sufism designed to improve ones subtle awareness and to illuminate the beautiful qualities of the spiritual heart. He has since completed this program and continues to use his eclectic healing skills and knowledge to help others.
David moved to California in 2000 to be with his wife and to work for a spiritual community organization, first as a Program Registrar and then as Operations Manager for an 118 acre spiritual retreat facility.
Once his son was born, David returned full-time to his love for creating interactive design. He founded Designs by Tierney in response to the positive feedback on his website designs, and as a way to spend more time at home with his family. He added the creation of on-line response forms as a core aspect of his website service offering after recognizing the value they provided for some of his clients, and after realizing how much he enjoyed making them.
